What Game Of Thrones Cocktails Should You Be Drinking During The Final Season?

Winter is finally upon us for what looks to be the final time, and everyone here at Funkin has a different theory about what will happen in Game of Thrones Season 8. But we can all agree on what we’ll have in hand while we watch the story unfold, because we’ve matched the perfect cocktails to your favourite Game of Thrones family houses. Because, like a certain witty dwarf, we drink and we know things.

Targaryen of King's Landing

The mighty Targaryens conquered the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros with power, fear, and some rather impressive dragons, so it’s fitting that their house motto is “Fire and Blood”. This power hungry family’s rule came to an abrupt end when Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark led a rebellion and Jamie Lannister murdered the king. We’ve been watching Daenerys try to take back the Iron Throne for seven seasons now, but it’s anyone’s guess as to whether she’ll succeed!

For this fiery and powerful house we picked the "Beet of the Dothraki Drum".  A great twist on a classic, it combines a mix of chilli vodka and beetroot shrub to create a smokey, rich drink fit for the Mother of Dragons herself.

To make this cocktail, you’ll need:

15ml Funkin Pro Beetroot Shrub

25ml Arbikie Chilli Vodka

25ml Vermouth

10ml Campari

2 Dashes of Chocolate Bitters

Add all the ingredients into a Rock glass and stir over cubed ice. Add a cone of beetroot crisps as a garnish and drink like a mother of dragons.

Stark of Winterfell

In the old days the Starks were the Kings of Winter, before becoming the Wardens of the North for the Seven Kingdoms. The Starks are a strong and noble family with a strong focus on duty, which might be why they’re so popular, but they haven’t exactly enjoyed good fortune throughout the series! Oh, and if you’re tired of hearing everyone talking about how “winter is coming”, this is the house to blame; it’s the Stark family motto.

For this duty-bound house situated in the frozen north, we picked a cocktail that suited their strong nature. It will keep you warm during the long winter nights, and the coffee will help keep you awake if anything comes over the Wall!

To make this cocktail, you'll need:

100ml Funkin Espresso Martini Mix

25ml Kahlua

25ml Dark Rum

25ml Guinness

Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serve in a highball glass.

Lannister of Casterly Rock

The Lannisters are both cunning and wealthy, and they always seem to be three steps ahead of everyone else. Although their founder was Lann the Clever, so this isn’t much of a surprise. Their official motto is “Hear Me Roar!” but you’ll more often hear them saying that “a Lannister always pays their debts”. They’re not always talking about money; they’re known to hold grudges!

For this luxurious family, we picked something that is rich, velvety and incorporates the Lannisters’ red and gold colours. You can imagine Cersi sipping a New York Sour while planning her next move from the Iron Throne.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

25ml Funkin Pro Lemon

15ml Funkin Pro Sugar Cane Syrup

35ml Michter’s Rye Whiskey

25ml Funkin Sour Mix

50ml Red Wine (float)

Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serve in a stemmed glass and garnish with edible gold dust.

Arryn of the Eyrie

The House Arryn is the oldest house in the Vale, based high in the Mountains of the Moon thousands of feet above the valley floor. It was Jon Arryn who served as Hand to the King before Ned Stark, and it was picking up Jon’s investigations into the King’s children that led to Ned’s own predicaments.

For House Arryn we’ve chosen a twist on the age old classic daiquiri, not just because it’s delicious, but also because it’s light and refreshing. Much as we imagine the mountain air of the Vale feels after you’ve been pushed through the Moon Door.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

25ml Funkin Pro Hemp Syrup

12.5ml Funkin Pro Lime

25ml Coconut Rum

25ml Spiced Rum

25ml Milk

Slice of ginger (To be shaken and discarded)

Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serve in a coupe glass and garnish with a pineapple leaf and dehydrated orange.

Baelish of Harrenhal

House Baelish of Harrenhal is one of the newer houses in the seven kingdoms. Who, if anyone, commanded the loyalty of Lord Petyr Baelish, also known as ‘Littlefinger’, was never quite clear. He always seemed to be a useful ally right up until the point he switched sides. Again.

That’s why we’ve picked Millionaire for House Baelish, as it’s a cocktail that lulls you into a false sense of security with its sweet name, before revealing how potent it really is.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

35ml Pussers Rum

15ml Cointreau

25ml Funkin Pro Lime

25ml Funkin Pro Pomegranate Puree

15ml Funkin Pro Sugar Cane Syrup

25ml Funkin Sour Mix

Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serve in a coupe glass and garnish with grated nutmeg.

House Tully of Riverrun

Catelyn Stark and Lysa Arryn are both daughters of Hoster Tully, the Lord of Riverrun. House Tully’s coat of arms is a silver trout on blue and red stripes, and its motto is “Family, Duty, Honor.” which may come as some surprise to anyone who remembers the infamous Red Wedding.

So what better cocktail for House Arryn than a Whiskey Sour, which takes an unsuspecting whiskey and adds an edgy sharpness?

To make this cocktail you'll need:

50ml Whiskey

25ml Funkin Pro Lemon

15ml Funkin Pro Ginger Syrup

25ml Funkin Sour Mix

Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serve in a rocks glass and garnish with a lemon twist and a cherry.

Greyjoy of Pyke

Ten years before Game of Thrones begins, Lord Balon Greyjoy led a rebellion against King Robert. When this failed, Balon was forced to give his youngest son, Theon, to the Starks as a hostage. And that worked out well for everyone, didn’t it? House Greyjoy’s coat of arms is a golden kraken on black, and its motto is “We Do Not Sow.”

A Mizuwari cocktail seems appropriate for this house of sailors, as it will keep the scurvy at bay. We think you’ll enjoy the sharpness and kick added to the light, refreshing taste.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

35ml Plymouth Navy Strength Gin

15ml Funkin Pro Lime

15ml Funkin Pro Sugar Cane Syrup

75ml Coconut Water

Build the ingredients in a highball glass and garnish with lemon twist.

Baratheon of Storm's End

House Baratheon is the youngest of the noble houses, but that didn’t stop its head, Robert, from leading his rebellion against the Mad Targaryen King and taking the Iron Throne for himself. His younger brothers, Stannis and Renly, were lords of Dragonstone and Storm’s End respectively, and both tried to reclaim the Iron Throne from the Lannisters. House Baratheon’s coat of arms is a black stag on a bright yellow background, and its motto is “Ours Is the Fury.”

We felt this twist on a classic Dark + Stormy was a perfect choice for House Baratheon. The addition of Chianti Red Wine makes for a bright, summery drink with darker notes, fitting for a trio of brothers whose bright promise ended up in such dark places.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

25ml Spiced Rum

25ml Chianti Red Wine

20ml Funkin Pro Ginger Syrup

25ml Funkin Pro Lime

Slice of ginger

Add all ingredients into a Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serve in a stemmed glass and garnish with a mixture of ginger and nutmeg powder.

Tyrell of Highgarden

The women of House Tyrell are known to be clever leaders; you only need to see Olenna and her granddaughter Margaery in action to see that for yourself. And while House Tyrell might have taken a beating from Cersei’s cruelty in the last few seasons, we wouldn’t count them out yet; the house motto is “Growing Strong” after all!

For the wealthy, refined House Tyrell, we picked an Earl Grey Collins. This cocktail has some floral notes which pair nicely with the Tyrell coat of arms (a golden rose), and a subtle kick reminds you of the power behind this great house.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

35ml Hendrick’s Orbium Gin

15ml Funkin Pro Earl Grey Syrup

25ml Funkin Pro Lemon

Top with Mediterranean Tonic

Martell of Sunspear

House Martell is no friend to the Lannisters, meaning the Martells have suffered just like everyone else who earns Cersei’s wrath. House Martell’s coat of arms is a gold spear piercing a red sun on a gold background, and its motto is “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.” Cersei has certainly put that motto to the test!

We think the Martells might have enjoyed an El Diablo cocktail to take the edge off their troubles. A tequila cocktail that’s easy to mix, we think it’s a good match for the harsh, desert climate of Dorne.

To make this cocktail you'll need:

35ml Tequila

15ml Chambord

25ml Funkin Pro Lime

15ml Funkin Pro Ginger Syrup

10ml Funkin Pro Grenadine Syrup

Ginger beer top

Lace the inside of the glass with Grenadine syrup and shake the remaining ingredients in a Boston shaker. Pour over ice into a Tiki glass and garnish with a pineapple leaf and dehydrated citrus.

House Bolton of the Dreadfort

Everyone knows House Bolton thanks to the infamous behaviour of Ramsay Bolton, who occupied Winterfell and married Sansa Stark thanks to the plotting of Littlefinger. Ramsay was rather fond of his dogs, and his dogs ended up being fond of him too! The Boltons are known for their practice of flaying their enemies, so we probably wouldn’t recommend inviting them to your cocktail party.

There could be no other choice but a Tequila shot for House Bolton, but we have created a spicy chaser to follow. It might seem rather tame compared to the kinds of torture Ramsay enjoyed, but we suspect this cocktail will be reserved for the brave amongst you!

To make this cocktail you'll need:

200ml Funkin Pro Watermelon Juice

50ml Funkin Pro Lime

25ml Funkin Pro Jalapeno Syrup

8 Sage Leaves

8 Basil Leaves

Add all of the ingredients to your Boston shaker and shake over ice. Serves 8.

We think there are enough cocktails to see you through the final season of Game of Thrones, no matter how many of your favourite characters get killed off! But don’t forget to share this with your friends so that everyone comes prepared to your cocktail party/episode viewing!
