The Colander Ice Bucket

It’s not much to look at, the colander. Just a big dish with a load of holes in – good for draining pasta, but not much else. How wrong we were. In fact, the colander makes an ingenious ice bucket – and the most unexpected must-have piece of party paraphernalia. At a party, stash ice in a colander set on top of a bucket or a bowl. Water will drain out, and guests will get only the solid stuff. It’s the only way to keep those rocks strictly rocks, without them swimming around in water and diluting your drink more than necessary when you top up. And when the ice is gone, the colander also makes a superb comedy hat. But you already knew that.

Presentation is key

Presentation is often as important as the drinks themselves, if it’s not worthy of an Instagram post there’s something wrong! Why not give the Strawberry Rose a try to really impress your guests. It’s really not as difficult as you may think:

1)     Start at the base of the Strawberry and cut a slice into the side, be careful not to slice the section off completely

2)     Rotate the strawberry around repeating the above on each side

3)     Gradually move up a level each time so that the strawberry has approx. 3 layers with slices

4)     Gently push the slices away from the strawberry so you are ‘opening’ the rose

5)     At the top gently cut the remaining bit of strawberry in half

6)     Push a cocktail stick into the base of the strawberry so it can stand up and place into the glass

Alternative Glassware

Tired of looking in your cupboards and seeing the same boring glassware staring back at you? Get creative and use fruit to serve drinks out of. Larger fruits such as pineapple and watermelons are often best as you can chop the end off and scoop out the inside. Pour your drink in, chuck in lots of ice and don’t forget the straws. Great for sharing and no washing up required!
