Lots of people pull their face at the use of ice in cocktails, thinking that it makes their drinks too watery and reduces the alcoholic strength. We can tell you that this is simply not true. Ice keeps ice nice - the more ice the better as it keeps the liquid cool, meaning the cubes melt at a much slower pace and the temperature is exactly how it should be.
BUT if you or your friends still need convincing, try freezing fruit purees or our cocktail mixers to give your drink a cool, fruity twist or wedges of lemon and lime.
Might we suggest a Mojito ice cube to chill down a glass of your favourite rum or a Bramble Ice Cube to serve your Gin. As it dilutes you go from a chilled neat spirit to a cocktail and no risk of it getting warm.
Make warm cocktails a thing of the past
Whether you’re hosting a garden party, heading to a festival or camping with your friends, lukewarm cocktails are a thing of the past. If you happen to have one of the new Funkin Cocktail mixers, pop it in the freezer (without any alcohol as it won’t freeze properly otherwise) remove just before you want to drink it and let it thaw slightly, add in the alcohol, shake and pour into a glass when ready. Icy cold cocktails, stress and mess free.
Ice it like the professionals
Ever wondered where the professionals get their clear, glistening, shimmering ice cubes from? And why yours always look cloudy? Well wonder no more, because now you can achieve bar quality ice in the comfort of your own home. How? Easy, just boil the water and let it cool down, boil again and add directly into an ice cube tray to freeze immediately. Remove the tray once liquid is completely frozen and voila, shiny crystal looking ice cubes that make you look like a pro.
Short of essentials?
If you’re lacking a few of the essentials such as a spirit measure, strainer or cocktail shaker, pick up a new Funkin Cocktail mixer today and have everything in one. Not only is the cocktail already mixed, it comes in a unique disposable cocktail shaker. Designed in 3 parts, with an integral strainer and measuring cap, there’s no need to worry about fiddly equipment and wasting time. Available in Passion Fruit Martini, Strawberry Daiquiri and a skinny twist on the nations favourite, Mojito, all you need to do is add spirit, shake and serve. Each shaker makes 4 drinks, meaning there’s plenty to share around!
If you really want to impress your guests, fill your glasses with candy floss and pour over champagne when everyone is watching. Wait and witness the magic unfold. Just give it a try, as a welcome drink perhaps.
The Colander Ice Bucket
It’s not much to look at, the colander. Just a big dish with a load of holes in – good for draining pasta, but not much else. How wrong we were. In fact, the colander makes an ingenious ice bucket – and the most unexpected must-have piece of party paraphernalia. At a party, stash ice in a colander set on top of a bucket or a bowl. Water will drain out, and guests will get only the solid stuff. It’s the only way to keep those rocks strictly rocks, without them swimming around in water and diluting your drink more than necessary when you top up. And when the ice is gone, the colander also makes a superb comedy hat. But you already knew that.
Presentation is key
Presentation is often as important as the drinks themselves, if it’s not worthy of an Instagram post there’s something wrong! Why not give the Strawberry Rose a try to really impress your guests. It’s really not as difficult as you may think:
1) Start at the base of the Strawberry and cut a slice into the side, be careful not to slice the section off completely
2) Rotate the strawberry around repeating the above on each side
3) Gradually move up a level each time so that the strawberry has approx. 3 layers with slices
4) Gently push the slices away from the strawberry so you are ‘opening’ the rose
5) At the top gently cut the remaining bit of strawberry in half
6) Push a cocktail stick into the base of the strawberry so it can stand up and place into the glass
Tired of looking in your cupboards and seeing the same boring glassware staring back at you? Get creative and use fruit to serve drinks out of. Larger fruits such as pineapple and watermelons are often best as you can chop the end off and scoop out the inside. Pour your drink in, chuck in lots of ice and don’t forget the straws. Great for sharing and no washing up required!
Light the way
We’ve all been there once the sun goes down, rummaging around in the cold wet alcohol bucket desperately searching for our last remaining bottle. Why not pop a few glow sticks into the water, these will help to illuminate the bucket meaning you can grab and go, to continue enjoying the party. It also looks super cool.
