It’s February. The last remnants of Christmas selection boxes have been polished off, the liquor cupboard is bare since you used the last of the rum to make hot mojitos, and your New Year’s Resolutions have been well and truly broken. Spring still feels like it’s a long way away. Just when you think the year can’t get any more dark, cold and dismal, along comes Chinese New Year in a riot of colour, paper lanterns and parades! It’s the perfect remedy for the winter blues.

The tradition of Chinese New Year wouldn’t be complete without a parade involving a massive Chinese Dragon. The brightly coloured parade featuring acrobats, music, dance and martial arts will wind its way along Duncannon Street to Shaftesbury Avenue, with celebrations also taking place at Charing cross Road, Leicester Square and Chinatown. The multitude of outdoor festivities makes it one of the Capital’s biggest annual outdoor celebrations. The Chinese New Year parade takes place on Sunday 22nd February, starting at Trafalgar Square in London.
